I couldn’t have asked for a better great grandfather for Vinny and Gino. They will be reminded of you throughout their lives by everyone who knew and loved you and you will be an inspiration and role model for them.

Early fall 1966 at 11 years old searching for my "passion" . Tried Cub Scouts , Tap dancing and ballroom dancing #NoSparkAchieved . Spoke with the late John Cain he suggested try basketball ? So I signed up and met Coach Vinny Cannizzaro . He explained we (players) would need to make a commitment . Most C.Y.O. coaches played 2 exhibition games + 12 scheduled games ..... we would be playing over 50 games ! A couple of boys stopped showing up , most accepted and embraced the challenge ! I consider myself blessed to start with the best coach I ever had . My "passion" I was searching for at 11 years of age has NEVER waned with basketball ... although my "jump shot" is more like a set shot at 69 years of age ... lol ! Rest Easy Always Coach Vinny !

Dear Daddy,
You were a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, coach, mentor; legend. For so many of us these descriptions are interchangeable. You have left such an impactful mark on so many lives, and what is wonderful to know is that you felt this from all who knew you.
Our father always put family first. But you know what, his family spanned well beyond blood relatives; you were all his family. He left such an impact on all of us.
Vincent Anthony Cannizzaro was born September 24, 1941. He was always involved in sports, and he
was a talented baseball pitcher. I should know, he used to put me in the box and pitch to me like he did the boys. Could you imagine if he was able to pursue a career in the major leagues? However, he had to give up that dream to help support his family as the oldest son. That sounds like him, doesn’t it?
What he couldn’t pursue in baseball he poured into coaching both basketball and baseball. His coaching career spanned 60 plus years because he never stopped coaching even if he was not on the sidelines anymore. Another important aspect that was very important to our father was his service with the NYPD and the inspector general’s office. He spent 30 years providing service to the community in addition to coaching.
All I have to say is thank goodness for the Christ the King strike in 1981. That was the beginning of a
magnificent journey where Vinny took high school women’s basketball to new heights. What started as
an interim position turned into 19 seasons. You all know the story. The wins, championships, hall of fame induction etc. were impressive, however what was even more impressive was the scholarships he worked hard to get for his girls. It was important to him that his girls went to college and succeeded not only in basketball, but in life.
As a hall of fame coach, he left his mark on women’s high school basketball changing the culture from the very beginning. The outpouring of love and the stories that I read on social media demonstrate the impact he had on so many people. You kind of know, but it is really amazing to see and feel the love for this amazing man.
On the personal side Dad was devoted to family. He has three children, seven grandchildren and five
great grandchildren all of whom adored him. Not to mention an extended family of cousins who meant
the world to him. He was a huge Yankee fan, and I got to spend some great times going to games with
him.
He always told all of us how family was everything. He took so much pride in his family and I could be
here for hours sharing all of that with you. What I will say is there was never any doubt the love that he
had for all of us, and we need to hold that close to our heart as we continue the journey of our lives
without him.
Cancer is a horrible disease that I am sure has impacted many of us in this room. As we are still coming to terms that this horrible disease took our father so quickly, we are relieved that he is no longer suffering. He did not deserve that.
Dear Daddy, today we celebrate you with family and friends, tomorrow we celebrate you in the house of
God and bring you home to be with your mom and brother. Then we will raise a glass as we often did
and celebrate an extraordinary life that touched more than we can imagine. We love you; we will forever miss you and we will continue to carry on your legacy of family.
Forever in our hearts,
Lisa, Jennifer, and Vincent

I remember walking back into Christ the king with you and having all the memories come back when you were my coach and all the fun we had playing basketball for you. I know we were a bit wild, but you always had your patience and your support for all your players. I love that about you. And I miss you every day.

Vincent Cannizzaro, Mr. C, Coach, Dad... you name it, he was it. He was everything to everyone he met. The mark he left on women's basketball is something we will forever cherish and hold close. I know that he is looking down with the biggest smile because he knows that we see him and we feel him constantly. A Legend.

In remembrance of Vincent, who embodied love, wisdom and kindness in abundance. His hopeful outlook on life, benevolence and selflessness taught us the true value of family ties. As a revered grandfather, father, husband, brother and friend; his intelligence and generous heart were integral to all life around him. We celebrate his invaluable contributions to our lives as we stand together in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace.
